If you are like me, you love pineapple.
Not the crap in the cans or on a pizza [which is 100% wrong and disgusting]...but fresh pineapple.
I consumed some of this today, which as always, lead my tongue feeling like I had just dipped it into acid. I would really like some more right now but I know it would kill my mouth.
I decided to research WHY pineapple is so hazardous to eat when fresh. Which shouldn't be the case.
"The reason is that pineapples contain the enzyme bromelain, which functions as a natural meat tenderizer that helps to break down protein. That leads to burning and stinging in the mouth."
In other words, pineapple tries to tenderize my tongue.
Knowing why it hurts to eat this luscious fruit does not help my crave for it. So I researched how to avoid this disaster.
- Eat it fully ripe
- Remove the core (which is where all the acid resides)
- Sprinkle lime juice on it to take away some acid
Now we can enjoy our pineapple without the torturous consequence.

I like the blog Kaitlin! and this was an awesome post. I'd wondered this myself :) haha. Have a wonderful day!
